Wide Tube 2.0: A Nighmare on Elm Street 2010

The producers would like to call this movie a reimagining of the 1984 movie and not as a remake. They told that when a movie is tagged as a remake, it tends to have a lot of expectation to meet and sometimes it gets too much criticism that nobody appreciates the movie.

This reboot of the movie was intended to be a prequel to the original film, but the filmmakers decided to give a new storyline with some of the concepts from the 1984 version. The movie features some of the names of the original characters like Nancy Holbrook (Rooney Mara), although the original character's name was Nancy Thompson played by Heather Langenkamp.

The story also revolves in the lives of four friends who are being stalked by a man with a burnt face with knives in his hand in their dreams. As one of them dies mysteriously during sleep Nancy tries to uncover what is their connection to each other when they were kids.

Jackie Earle Haley now plays Freddy Krueger, which was made famous by Robert Englund who appeared in eight movies as the dream serial killer. Englund did not reprise his role because he believes that viewers will see it as a sequel not as a reboot of the 1984 version.

Haley's Krueger is much darker and more sinister than of Englund's. Englund's portrayal of Freddy is maniacal but in a humorous and comical way. The original never fails to make us laugh at some point but Haley's version will make you jump on your seat as he quickly attack in the dreams with a husky voice. I might be able to compare Englund's portrayal to Jack Nicholson's Joker and Haley's to Heath Ledger's darker Joker character in the Dark Knight.

Like the 1984 version, the ending part was left open for some possible sequel and I am going to wait for that.

Into the Spider's Web: Pacman in Google Search Page

I was already in the office when one of my coleagues informed me to open the Google page. Upon opening it, I saw that the Google logo has been changed into the classic Pacman maze. Upon further checking, you can actually play the game in the Google logo.

Google pays tribute to Pacman as the game celebrates its 30th anniversary and includes it to the number of its Google Doodle series. The game was developed by Namco and was released in Japan on May 22, 1980.

The Pacman Google Doodle was launched a day earlier of its anniversary and can be enjoyed for 48 hours because Google believed that a day will not be enough to reminisce the beloved classic game. The game also features Ms. Pacman when you click the Insert Coin button during the gameplay. Google Philippines had a customized "Ihulog and Barya" button to have a local touch in the tribute..

Parallax Dimension: Crescent Moon and Venus Spotted

I was on my way home in a cab when I saw a phenomenon in the sky after the sunset. It was the crescent moon and Venus just above it.

The view was fascinating in some way and it gives me an unexplained feeling. I wonder if alignment of celestial bodies affects people on how they think, feel and react like what we see in movies or TV shows.

I really wanted to take a picture of the moon and Venus after I got home but I know my lens won't be able to capture it. There are really some things you can't take pictures with and you just need to savor the memory of seeing it with your naked eye.

When I checked my Facebook, it seems that there many people somehow obsessed with the phenomenon that somebody mistook it as an eclipse. One of my friend was able to capture the moon and the planet with a 300mm lens in his DSLR.

Beyond Elections 2010: Things you can do with the Posters after Elections

We are currently on our way back to Manila after voting in our province when a question popped in my mind. After the elections, not just this elections, but every elections, what happens to posters used in campaigns and the one left in trees, electric posts, and other places? It is usually left there until the end of time and that is a reality we see after every elections.

So I have listed some of the things we can do with these posters hanging on our streets:

1. KITE MATERIAL. Since summer time is still in the corner, kite flying is still one of the favorite past time of people. The plastic type of posters is the recommended material for kite making.

2. BILARAN NG PALAY. In the province, we usually dry "palay" after harvest time. This is usually done by spreading it on a open ground like a basketball court or the road. For easy collection in case of rainshower, it is best spread in a sewn sack cloth or a big mat. The tarpouline type of poster is best used for this purpose since palay will be easily dried due to the heat absorbed by the material.

3. CURTAIN or DIVIDER. People living in shanty will have a great use for tarpoulines of the candidates they have voted. They can use it as a curtain, divider, or another layer of roof for protection agains harsh weather.

4. VEHICLE COVERING. If cars do have covers to protect them against weather. Tarpoulines especially the big ones can be used to cover motorcycles, tricycles and other vehicles if you cannot afford to buy a car cover which is expensive.

5. RECYCLE. Although all of the things mentioned above is a means of recycling, bringing the paper type of poster to your nearest junk shop is one of the best thing you can do with it. It is a direct way of recycling thus you help the reduction of waste and at the same time you earn a little by selling it to the junk shop.

I wish all candidates, winner or loser, will have the responsibility to remove their posters so as not to be an obstruction in the streets.

Hammy's Pick: Professional Callboy by Hazel Manzano

Here comes the sequel to Hazel Manzano's Callwork comic book series entitled Professional Callboy. After the successful reception of the first book Callwork, Manzano delivered another set of call center's funny anecdotes.

The comic strip revolves around the lives of the team led by Ken, with his members Jeff, Sarah, Rhea and our favorite character, Clover. It shows how life passes by in the world of call center agents and support engineers. On how they handle irate clients, irate agents, sup calls, AHT maintenance, payslip discrepancies, annoying supervisors, pathetic workforce and many more.

The book contains storyline like Sarah's love story with her supervisor, Clover and Rhea's quest to have a boyfriend in the new hires, and how to tell if your a good supervisor and if you are "pasaway" agent.

This book will not only make you laugh but also make you realize how funny but at the same time how tough is the life of call center agents and technical support people. They will be able to relate to the stories inside the book.
